First Alert Forecast: Lighter trade winds with scattered showers expected over the weekend, increasing showers expected next week

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Expect gentle to breezy trade winds through the weekend. Occasional periods of higher moisture moving in from the east will promote higher shower frequency and areal coverage. Showers that ride in on the trades will primarily focus on windward mauka exposures the next several days. Trades will slightly back off this weekend with lessened shower coverage. The approach of a cold front may initiate a more wet pattern next week.
An advisory level N/NW swell is expected to start picking up tonight peaking over the weekend. Surf along east facing shores will remain rough due to the strong trades with a slight downward trend is expected this weekend. Surf along south-facing shores will remain small, with mainly a mix of short period southeast and background long period south swell energy.
